Dr. Lutie Van Den Berg graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits Medical School) in 1987 and has lived in Mackay with his family since June 2000. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Fellowship and the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

He has practised Skin Cancer Medicine in Mackay since 2004. He has completed the University of Queensland Certificate in Primary Skin Cancer Surgery, Certificate in Advanced Skin Cancer Surgery, and Certificate in Primary Skin Cancer Medicine. He also has passed the Advanced Dermoscopy Examination of the Skin Cancer College of Australia & New Zealand and has memberships in the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand and the Skin Cancer Institute.

Dr Van Den Berg is the founder and principal of the Smart Scan Mackay Melanoma and Skin Cancer Centre, where he performs skin cancer and skin checks.

Dr. Browning graduated from the University of Queensland in 1991 and has lived and worked in North Queensland for most of his career. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

He has practised Skin Cancer Medicine in Mackay since 2004. During this time, he completed the prestigious Cardiff Diploma of Dermatology (with a departmental recommendation) and has a Master's Degree in Skin Cancer. He has certification in advanced dermoscopy, dermal imaging, and advanced skin cancer surgery.

Dr. Browning has co-authored articles and published research in the field of skin cancer in national and international peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Robert Cliffe joined SMART SCAN Skin Cancer Clinic in January 2019.

Dr Robert Cliffe had previously worked in a Skin Cancer Clinic with Dr Gordon Patrick on the Gold Coast for over four years. Dr. Patrick pioneered the use of the Molemax Scanners for Skin Cancer diagnosis and provided in–house training for Dr. Cliffe.

Dr. Robert Cliffe has undertaken postgraduate training courses in Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Surgical techniques for tumour excision, including skin grafting and various rotation flaps to repair defects following skin cancer removal.

Dr. Robert Cliffe is working toward a Professional Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery and Dermoscopy.

Dr. Robert Cliffe has over 7000 hours of flying experience and is a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) appointed by CASA to carry out medical examinations for Pilots and Air Traffic Control officers.

DR Cleveland graduated in the UK in 2006 and has worked in various hospital specialties since graduating.

She has a wide clinical knowledge base, especially in general medicine, surgery and paediatrics and skin cancer management

Within general practice, Dr. Cleveland has also developed a special interest in Skin Cancer detection and Management  by completing the following Certificates

2020 / Certificate of Dermoscopy

Dr Zahid Awan is a dedicated General Practitioner with more than three decades of clinical experience. He graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Allama Iqbal Medical College in 1991 and has been practising as a GP in Australia since 2005.

With a special focus on skin cancer medicine, Dr Awan provides expert diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of all types of skin cancers. He is highly skilled in both surgical and non-surgical techniques and is committed to the early detection and prompt treatment of skin malignancies to reduce morbidity and save lives.

Dr Awan holds advanced qualifications in skin cancer surgery and dermatology, including:
